Dear Resident,
Safer Streets Initiative – Knife Recovered During Leigh Patrol Leigh, Greater Manchester – 18/08/2025 As part of the ongoing Safer Streets Initiative, officers from the Neighbourhood Policing Team conducted foot patrols in Leigh Town Centre and surrounding areas earlier today. While the town centre was relatively quiet during the early hours, officers extended their patrol route and later discovered a knife—still in its sheath—in a small wooded area along the canal towpath near Leigh Bridge. The knife was safely recovered and has been logged into the police property system for destruction. Greater Manchester Police would like to remind the public that a Knife Amnesty Bin is available on Brown Street South, near the Spinning Gate Car Park, for the safe disposal of unwanted knives. Alternatively, members of the public can contact GMP via 101 or through the online portal at Contact Us | Greater Manchester Police, and officers will arrange collection. This proactive patrol is part of GMP’s commitment to reducing knife crime and enhancing public safety across our communities.
Thanks, and Take Care!
